Flash floods cause gridlock along Shah Alam’s Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari

KUALA LUMPUR – Flash floods have hit an area in Shah Alam this evening, leading to a traffic gridlock and several stranded vehicles. 

At about 6pm today, Astro Radio Traffic reported that flooding resulted in a complete standstill on the roads from Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari heading towards the Setia Alam area. 

User @zuhri_Z additionally shared a brief video of the flood, advising road users to be cautious. The video also showed two motorcyclists pushing their bikes through knee-deep waters. 

As of 7.30pm, the Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department recorded rising water levels in several areas, including Kg Melayu Subang, Petaling (17.92m) and Pekan Meru, Klang (4.22m). 

These areas have been categorised as “red zones”, indicating a significant risk of flooding. Kg Melayu Subang has exceeded the “red” level by 0.52m, while Pekan Meru exceeded it by 0.02m. 

At 6.34pm, the Meteorological Department issued a thunderstorm warning for the peninsula’s west coast, Sabah, and Sarawak until around 9pm. 

Affected areas include Perak (Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, and Kampar), Kelantan (Gua Musang), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, and Jerantut), Selangor (Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat, and Sepang), Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan (Seremban and Port Dickson), Johor (Pontian, Kulai, and Johor Bahru), and Sarawak (Bintulu, Sebauh, Miri, and Limbang). – June 26, 2024
