KUALA LUMPUR – It was a slip of the tongue by the leadership that he had an ISO 14001 certificate, said PAS’ Sg Bakap candidate Abidin Ismail amid the “political missiles” launched his way.

Ahead of nomination day on Saturday, he told Scoop that he did not take the mockery to heart and that the “gimmick” was not a big issue.

He said he knew that the ISO 14001 certification was meant for companies or factories, not individuals.

“This is just a little misunderstanding or slip of the tongue by the leadership, but our rivals took advantage of it.

“There really is no issue, there’s no need to prolong this matter. We know the certificate is for companies, there is no ISO certificate for individuals.

“It is common for politicians to use such ‘mistakes’ to launch attacks. This is normal in politics, I am not offended by it.”

When announcing Abidin’s candidacy recently, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the candidate had remarkable capabilities because he has an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certificate.

Meanwhile, Abidin said his campaign will focus on water supply and the cost of living issues as they are immediate problems faced by the local residents.

“These were also issues that the late assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff worked on.

“Based on previous results, there is competition here, but I am confident that voters who supported Nor Zamri will continue their support for the party.”

Abidin, 56, who is also a Sg Bakap local, was serving as Nor Zamri’s aide.

The by-election was called following the death of Nor Zamri, on May 24.

Sg Bakap is heading to the polls on July 6. – June 21, 2024
