KUALA LUMPUR – The country’s number one singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Taruddin has come under fire for her decision to participate in the Hitman Returns: David Foster and Friends concert in Jakarta tonight.

In a statement, the Malaysian chapter of the global anti-Israel movement Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS Malaysia) said it was “very disappointing” that Siti Nurhaliza decided to participate in the concert.

BDS also revealed that David Foster, a world-renowned Canadian music composer, is also a strong supporter of Israel’s Zionist regime and has been involved in fundraising activities for the Israeli military.

“Given the current situation, where over 36,000 Palestinians have been brutally murdered by the Zionist army since October 7 last year, with the massacre still ongoing in Gaza and the West Bank, Siti Nurhaliza’s decision to participate in a show organised by Foster is very disappointing,” the statement read.

The group called on all parties, including artists, to show greater sensitivity towards the Palestinian situation.

“BDS Malaysia emphasised that at a minimum, they should boycott Israel’s Zionist regime and any entities or individuals linked to the atrocities occurring in Palestine.”

Siti Nurhaliza is scheduled to perform in the concert which will held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition in BSD City, Jakarta.

Other artists scheduled to perform at the event include Brian McKnight, Jessie J, and Indonesian pop and R&B singer Afgan. – June 15, 2024
