KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his predecessor Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin have reached an out-of-court settlement over their legal disputes, for the rakyat’s wellbeing.

Both Anwar and Muhyiddin took to their social media platforms to make the announcement.

On December 5, 2022, Anwar sued Muhyiddin over the latter’s claim that he had received RM15 million in salary when he was Selangor’s economic advisor.

However, on July 28 last year, Muhyiddin filed a defamation suit against Anwar over the latter’s claimed Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlement debt issues.

“We have agreed to stop our personal dispute, after taking into account the court’s recommendations, the impact of the suit on the people and given the current state of the country which takes priority,” they said in a joint statement which each posted on their respective Facebook pages.

“We express our appreciation to the high court judge and court officials involved, hoping that this decision can be accepted and respected by all parties.

“We also agreed to not issue any further statements on this matter. We hoped that this settlement would not be used to upset public peace and stability, as well as the people’s confidence in the country’s judicial institutions.

This is the second time that Muhyiddin has settled legal disputes with other politicians outside of court. He did the same with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on April 26 over a defamation suit filed by the latter.

Zahid had filed defamation suit against Muhyiddin on April 4, 2022, over the latter’s statements that claimed Zahid asked for intervention in his corruption trials while Muhyiddin was prime minister. – June 14, 2024
