KUALA LUMPUR – The supposed details surrounding the murder of 6-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin leaked by Edisi Siasat will interrupt the ongoing police investigation and stir public opinion, said the home minister.

Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the murder investigation had to be carried out professionally and should not be influenced by public sentiment.

“Trust me, I get updates from police on the investigation and they do not delay,” he told reporters after an event at the Malaysian Police Training Centre here today.

When asked about a possible revamp of the force, he said: “If necessary, police will investigate the leak. If the leak is coming from inside, the perpetrator will be charged.”

Earlier, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed to Scoop that police were looking into Edisi Siasat’s recent Telegram leak of an alleged investigation officer’s report on the probe into Zayn Rayyan’s parents.

He said Bukit Aman would release a statement addressing this issue, given that the matter, along with other “revelations” by Edisi Siasat, concerned federal-level issues.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman’s criminal investigation department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain confirmed that police were investigating Edisi Siasat, according to a Buletin TV3 report.

Yesterday, Zayn Rayyan’s parents, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf, were charged with child neglect at the Petaling Jaya sessions court.

The couple pleaded not guilty and were each released on RM10,000 bail.

On December 6 last year, the 6-year-old’s body was found at a stream near Idaman Apartments, Damansara Damai, some 200m from his house.

A post-mortem indicated that the child was killed, based on injuries found on his neck and body. – June 14, 2024
