PETALING JAYA – Many in the logistics industry are unaware that they should apply for fleet cards to purchase diesel at a subsidised rate.

A Scoop survey has found that several petrol stations have put up pamphlets at their cashier counters about the MySubsidi Diesel programme to remind the public of the fleet card facility.

An employee at a petrol station, Hidayah Abu Bakar, 25, said the fleet cards cannot be “bought” from the station but must be obtained by registering for the programme online.

“So far, many have not registered to obtain a fleet card because they are not aware of it. If they do not have the fleet card, it means they will not get to buy diesel at a subsidised rate.”

On May 30, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said one million fleet cards were available for the Subsidised Diesel Control System 2.0 for 23 eligible vehicle categories.

Currently, each transport company can hold up to three fleet cards from any of the five designated oil companies – Petronas, Shell Malaysia, Petron, Boustead Petroleum Marketing Sdn Bhd (BHPetrol) and Caltex.

To qualify for the subsidy, companies must be registered businesses in Malaysia, and have valid and up-to-date road tax for their vehicles, apart from meeting the system’s eligibility criteria.

A Petronas Mesralink spokesperson, who only wanted to be known as Asyraf, told Scoop that diesel vehicle owners interested in the subsidy must submit their information to the Domestic Trade Ministry.

“To enjoy subsidised diesel prices, the ministry will first need to issue a letter with a list of the vehicles involved. After that, they can apply to obtain a fleet card with a designated fuel company.”

On the other hand, 50-year-old lorry driver Muniandy Subramaniam wants to register for the diesel subsidy but is unsure how he should go about it.

“For now, my employer has not told me about it. I assume they will register (on my behalf).”

He said his monthly diesel usage currently amounted to around RM2,000. – June 9, 2024
