KAJANG – Kajang’s crime rate has decreased by 13.5% compared to the first five months of 2023, said Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

He attributed this decrease to Kajang’s crime prevention programme, supported by active participation from resident associations in their initiatives.

“From January to May, we have held a total of 1297 crime prevention programmes in Kajang. The active involvement of local resident associations has significantly contributed to the reduction of crime rates in the area.

“These programmes encompassed various initiatives such as public exhibitions, public service announcements, regular community meetings, and increased police patrols.

“The resident association in Taman Rakan is very active in our programmes and has garnered significant community support,” he said during a press conference held at the launch of the Taman Angkat Amanita Selangor contingent at SK Taman Rakan today.

Hussein also said that Taman Rakan is the most suitable location to launch this year’s initiative, given the community’s proactive measures to prevent crime, such as engaging in active social responsibility activities in parks and mosques.

He also encouraged women from Kajang to join associations to foster good relationships and ensure the success of the Taman Angkat Amanita initiative.

“All women, especially those in Kajang, are advised to integrate into the local community and participate in daily activities together to foster closeness and establish better cooperation to realise this initiative.

“This initiative demonstrates that everyone, including women and housewives, has a responsibility to prevent crime,” he said.

He also hopes that the launch of this event will encourage increased collaboration between police and the public, as well as information sharing, in order to effectively reduce crime rates in Selangor.

“All parties are urged to consistently extend their support and cooperation to police, ensuring the public’s safety and security,” he said.

The Taman Angkat Amanita initiative has run for nine consecutive years since its establishment in 2013.

Its primary objective is to increase police officers’ engagement with residents in residential areas, as well as to empower women and housewives within these communities to act as vigilant observers for the authorities. – June 8, 2024
