PETALING JAYA – The remand period for Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin’s parents has been extended for another six days until June 13.

Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf’s lawyer, Fahmi Abd Moin, said that magistrate Aina Mohamad Kamal granted the police’s application to extend the couple’s remand during today’s proceedings.

He also said that the police had initially requested a seven-day extension. However, the magistrate granted only six days, starting today.

The couple’s remand order was initially set to conclude today.

“The remand application was made under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. We objected to the application on the grounds that we believe they should not be detained any longer and should be released.

“But the magistrate found that there was a basis to extend their remand and granted the application.

“We have also explained this process to Zayn’s parents, and they understood,” Fahmi told the press after today’s proceedings.

The couple’s remand order was initially set to conclude today.

On December 6, last year, Zayn Rayyan’s body was found in a creek about 200m from his family’s home at Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai.

The victim was confirmed to have been murdered based on the autopsy, which revealed injuries to his neck and body.

The day before, police confirmed they had received a report on the child’s disappearance from his family.  – June 7, 2024
