Mountain guide dies after reaching Gunung Hitam summit

Rescue team takes four hours to reach top, despite efforts to revive victim, he was confirmed dead at 5.50pm

KUALA LUMPUR – A mountain guide died after collapsing upon reaching the peak of Gunung Hitam in Hulu Langat, near here, this morning.

According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), the guide, identified as Norfazli Abd Aziz, 57, was confirmed dead at 5.50pm by a medical personnel.

Selangor FRD director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 11.48am and a team from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn Fire and Rescue Station, along with the police, medical personnel and the Civil Defence Force, was deployed to the scene.

“The rescue, medic and support teams took four hours to reach the top of the mountain, and when they arrived at 4.30pm, Norfazli was unconscious but still breathing.

“However, the victim was confirmed dead at 5.50pm,” he said in a statement.

He said efforts to bring down the victim’s body are still underway and are expected to be completed by 10pm, adding that the body would be taken to the hospital for further action. – June 1, 2024
