Leave it to MACC to probe Asia Mobiliti, avoid speculating, says Fahmi

Amid new complaints and leads, minister emphasises importance of allowing MACC to conduct investigation without interference

KUALA LUMPUR – Allow the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to pursue the “new complaints” and “new leads” into Asia Mobiliti to determine the validity of the information, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He added that the opposition, which has been speculating on the issue, should stop so the authorities can carry out their duties.

“We leave it all to MACC to investigate whether the contract was awarded in due process, as well as if there is any element of corruption.

“If MACC finds no issue at the end of the investigation, so be it. However, if there is a need to take action, they will. This was also said by the prime minister previously.

“What is important now is that we do not speculate when the investigation is ongoing. The findings of the investigation are not yet complete,” he told reporters when met at Karnival Madani in Kerinchi here today.

He said there is nothing wrong if the pilot project awarded to Asia Mobiliti was done via due process.

The Lembah Pantai MP also warned against doxxing, or disclosing an individual’s personal information without consent, which is illegal as it violates the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

“We cannot simply disclose anyone’s personal identifiable information. This violates the law, and anybody found guilty can be persecuted.

“Don’t take the law into your own hands.”

MACC deputy chief commissioner for operations Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed yesterday that new information was received but did not elaborate.

Asia Mobiliti, which is co-founded by Ramachandran Muniandy, the husband of Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, is one of two companies with the Selangor government’s award of a proof of concept (PoC) for a transport project.

MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki had previously said the agency found no wrongdoing in its preliminary investigation into the issue, but further investigations could be conducted with new leads.

Selangor mobility executive councillor Ng Sze Han said Asia Mobiliti and another company, BadanBas Coach, were not selected for the DRT trial through direct negotiations, and had been chosen by the state as the Land Public Transport Agency had approved them because they were qualified to conduct the DRT, which uses technology solutions.

Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin had also clarified that Asia Mobiliti was only being asked to prove its capabilities in running the DRT and had not been awarded a contract.

Apart from Apad, Ng also said the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) had approved Asia Mobiliti for the service.

Meanwhile, on May 30, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said neither he, Yeoh, nor Ng were involved in the project’s appointment process.

The first phase of the service began in the Puchong and Ampang areas from November last year, followed by Phase Two last January for Hulu Klang and Serdang.

Operating within predefined zones or routes, the system is said to efficiently handle multiple bookings and optimise vehicle dispatching through intelligent algorithms that consider factors like waiting time, travel duration, and traffic conditions. – June 1, 2024
