KUALA LUMPUR – Refrain from 3R (race, religion and royalty) rhetoric and allow authorities to investigate the alleged assault of a disabled e-hailing driver, Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil tells the public.
“Everybody has given their thoughts (on the matter), including statements by the inspector-general of police (IGP). So, let the authorities investigate this… give them space to do so.
“Those who do not have the complete information (on the case) should not speculate. It will not help the ongoing investigation.
“If police investigation shows several actions need to be taken, including hauling people to court, it is then up to the attorney-general to decide,” he told reporters after launching Karnival Madani in Kerinchi, here today.
“We have to be mindful and careful when commenting on any issue. We can always speak our minds, but if we go beyond the limits, actions will have to be taken by authorities.”
He added that no one is exempted from the law, if they have committed any offence.
On May 28, driver Ong Ing Keong was allegedly assaulted by a VIP escort in front of St Regis Hotel here.
He said his dashboard camera was seized and the footage of the incident was erased.
He added that he was given RM800 as compensation after being pressured into dropping his initial police report. – June 1, 2024
