KUALA LUMPUR – Undeterred by the black mesh screen put up to block the view of Mount Fuji, Japan, a town official suspects that tourists have been poking holes at the barrier to get their Insta-worthy holiday snapshots.
An official from Fujikawaguchiko town said small holes have appeared along the screen despite a security guard being placed there between 10am and 4pm.
The screen was erected on May 21 at a popular photo spot near a convenience store where streams of tourists jostle for a good photo of the mountain, disregarding traffic rules, as well as trespassing and littering.
“It’s about manners. It’s a shame. I tried to put a camera up to one of the holes. Did I take a good picture? In fact, I think the net came into the frame,” the official was quoted as saying by AFP.
The town also has put up QR codes along the screen, introducing its other tourist attractions, and alternative spots to get a shot of Mount Fuji.
Hikers using the most popular Mount Fuji route this summer will be charged 2,000 yen (RM61) each and an optional 1,000 yen donation. Number of hikers is capped at 4,000. – May 28, 2024
