12 injured as Qatar Airways flight encounters turbulence en route to Dublin

This the second notable turbulence incident in a week after Singapore Airlines’ SQ321

10:50 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – A Qatar Airways flight travelling from Doha to Dublin, Ireland, encountered severe turbulence today that resulted in injuries to 12 people.

Upon its arrival in Dublin just before 8pm local time, flight QR107 was met by emergency personnel, including airport police and the fire department.

Dublin Airport released a statement confirming that six passengers and six crew members sustained injuries during the turbulence, which occurred while the aircraft was flying over Türkiye.

While Dublin Airport is providing assistance to affected travellers and employees, it assured that other flight operations remained unaffected.

This incident follows a similar one involving a Singapore Airlines flight, SQ321, on Tuesday, which resulted in one death and 30 injuries after the aircraft plummeted 6,000ft in altitude within four minutes.

The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok after experiencing severe turbulence, causing passengers and crew members to be thrown around the cabin, with some hitting the ceiling of the aircraft cabin.

The aircraft, carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, successfully landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport in the Thai capital. – May 26, 2024
