KUALA LUMPUR – The police never confirmed that Selangor FC player Faisal Halim was in a Toyota Vellfire when he was splashed with acid, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
The top cop insisted there was no clash of narratives, as one of the news reports was not corroborated with the investigating officers.
“Myself, (Bukit Aman’s) criminal investigation department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, or Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan never issued a statement about the car used by Faisal.
“Previously it was only revealed that Faisal was walking to his car, and the suspect is believed to be on a motorcycle.
“There is no issue of clashing reports by the police. It was in the media, not sure where they got the information,” he said in a statement today.
Razarudin added that the news organisation that published the report will issue an apology for the error.
As of today, the police have yet to identify the motive behind the acid attack on Faisal, but the authorities are focused on identifying possible suspects based on a photofit that was drawn up from information given by three eyewitnesses.
On May 11, a second suspect in the acid attack on Faisal was released on police bail after the investigation process concluded. However, the suspect may be called in again at any time to assist with further inquiries if necessary.
Meanwhile, the first suspect – who was remanded – was released on May 7 as he was found to have no connection to the attack. However, he was rearrested due to a positive drug test.
On May 5, Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body after being splashed with acid by an unknown individual at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara. This injury has restricted his movement and speech.
After successfully undergoing several surgeries and a skin allograft with skin imported from Belgium, Faisal was reported to be stable and transferred to a general ward.
Separately, CCTV footage showing an acid splash incident believed to involve Faisal at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya went viral on social media, and police are currently tracking down parties responsible for disclosing it. – May 24, 2024
