PAS’ Sg Bakap rep Nor Zamri Latiff dies after weeks in intensive care

Assemblyman’s passing set to trigger by-election in Penang

3:05 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – PAS’ Sg Bakap assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff died aged 56 at 1.38pm today after being in intensive care since May 1.

This is expected to trigger a by-election seeing that Penang had a state election last year.

Just a few hours earlier, Penang PAS commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff said Nor Zamri was in a better condition even though he was still undergoing treatment in the ICU.

It is understood that the funeral for the late assemblyman will take place at Masjid Sg Acheh, Nibong Tebal at 6pm today.

He was first admitted to the ICU in Seberang Jaya Hospital due to stomach inflammation.

Nor Zamri, who was also Nibong Tebal PAS chief, contested the Sg Bakap seat in the last state election in August and won against Pakatan Harapan candidate Nurhidayah Che Rose with a majority of 1,563 votes.

In his electoral debut in 2018, he was beaten in the Sg Acheh state seat by Zulkifli Ibrahim, then of PKR, in a three-cornered fight that included Umno’s Datuk Mahmud Zakaria. – May 24, 2024
