KUALA LUMPUR – The recent incidents involving Istana Negara, police stations and threats issued against DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok are unrelated to one another, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
“The person detained at the Istana Negara (for example), dreamed that (someone) ordered him to appear before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong; the suspect who (trespassed) the Dato Keramat police station was drunk. So, they are not related.
“The attack on the Ulu Tiram police station is perpetrated by a ‘lone wolf’.”
He said this at the monthly gathering of his ministry in Putrajaya today.
As for the Ulu Tiram case, Saifuddin said the investigation is focused on the “instigator” element following the discovery that the suspect’s family considers others to be “infidels” and the suspect kept to himself, away from the local community.
“Police are not just focusing on the perpetrator but also want to look into who is the instigator. Give the police the opportunity to investigate.”
Yesterday, the police released two students who were detained following the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station. Five family members of the suspect remain on remand until tomorrow.
Last Friday’s predawn attack on the Ulu Tiram police station killed two police officers and injured another, who shot dead the attacker. Saifuddin had said that although the attacker acted alone, his father had been a member of the terror group Jemaah Islamiyah.
On Tuesday, 35-year-old parking attendant Supramaniam pleaded not guilty to obstructing the duties of a sentry officer at the Dato’ Keramat police station. Penang police said the man was under the influence of alcohol.
Last Sunday, Seputeh MP Kok shared that she found a handwritten death threat and bullets in her mailbox the day before, which is now being investigated for criminal intimidation. – May 23, 2024
