KUALA LUMPUR – The Communications Ministry will introduce the 1 Rumah 1 Jalur Gemilang (1R1JG) initiative to foster patriotism among citizens ahead of upcoming national month celebrations.

Its minister, Fahmi Fadzil, underscored the importance of flying the Jalur Gemilang, the symbol of Malaysia’s independence and unity, which is prominently displayed during moments of national success around the world.

He said that this patriotic effort should begin at home, which he described as the safest place for families to live.

“The Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of the independence and unity of Malaysians,” Fahmi said after launching the Ekspresi Bulan Kebangsaan 2024 programme in KL Sentral today.

“The practice of flying the Jalur Gemilang, especially during the national month, needs to be continuously intensified.”

He also reminded the public to ensure that the flags they display are in good condition.

“I would like to remind everyone to fly the perfect Jalur Gemilang, which is a flag that is not torn and not worn out, because it is a reflection of ourselves as responsible citizens who love the country,” he added.

The launch today, organised by the Information Department as a pre-celebration for Independence Day on August 31 and Malaysia Day on September 16, saw more than 1,000 attendees.

These included the general public, the handicapped community, the Madani community, Malaysiaku Club members, students from higher education institutions, and KL Sentral public transport service users.

Fahmi emphasised that the Ekspresi Bulan Kebangsaan programme, conducted simultaneously in Penampang, Sabah, and Kuching, Sarawak, exemplifies the government’s commitment to fostering patriotism across all segments of society.

The event features a diverse array of activities, including exhibitions on national identity, artistic performances, photo opportunities, colouring competitions, an Ekspresi Merdeka showcase, exhibitions of independence-themed miniatures, traditional games, and showcases of traditional attire.

In addition to these festivities, Fahmi highlighted the ministry’s initiative to compile a collection of patriotic and unity songs, comprising 22 tracks available for free download on the official Merdeka360 portal, Bernama reported.

He expressed hope that these songs would be embraced within schools and Madani communities during the national month and Malaysia Day celebrations, fostering a sense of unity and determination towards national development.

Speaking about the Madani community, Fahmi underscored its pivotal role in disseminating awareness about government endeavours aimed at enhancing citizens’ welfare. This involves initiatives to uplift income levels as well as efforts to tackle issues such as race, religion, and royalty, defamation, and fake news within the nation.

Fahmi revealed plans for a series of programmes tailored for the 1,878 Madani community units, to be overseen by district officers, ensuring effective communication of the government’s messages to grassroots levels.

Notable attendees included Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, the ministry’s Chief Secretary Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, and Information Department Director-General Julina Johan. – May 19, 2024
