KUALA LUMPUR – Fishermen Integrated reeled in another big catch when it was announced as a winner at the 28th Annual Webby Awards – a first for the agency and Malaysia.

The locally-owned independent agency was honoured along with this year’s other Webby winners at a star-studded ceremony in New York on May 13, where they had the opportunity to participate in the awards’ hallmark tradition of delivering a five-word acceptance speech.

Hailed as the “Internet’s Highest Honour” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards (The Webbys) are widely considered to be the most prestigious award for excellence on the internet.

It is overseen by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a judging body composed of over 3,000 industry experts and technology innovators.

Fishermen Integrated is the sole Malaysian company to be included among the world’s best digital creators this year for its work on the Petronas 2022 Integrated Report website, which won the Webby People’s Voice Award for Best Use of Video or Moving Image (under the Websites and Mobile Sites – Features & Design category).

The People’s Voice Award, voted by the online community, is one of the two awards that all Webby nominees in each category are eligible for.

Over 2.2 million votes were cast by over 550,000 people around the world for this year’s Webbys.

“Being recognised as a Webby winner is a dream come true for Fishermen Integrated, both on a professional and personal level. It’s a testament to our unwavering dedication and the exceptional partnership we have fostered with our esteemed client, Petronas.

“We take immense pride in not only representing Malaysia but also in being the sole Malaysian company to clinch this prestigious award on the global stage.

“We are deeply honoured to have brought this accolade home, standing alongside renowned brands. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our partners Green-i and Fishermen Analytics for their indispensable contributions that made this win possible.

“And not forgetting all Malaysians who voted for us – you have helped us put Malaysia on the digital map alongside major players such as Google, Apple and Nasa.

“It’s a humble and blessed milestone for us, and a testament to what can happen when we join forces with passion and determination,” expressed Fishermen Integrated co-founder and managing director Mark Darren Lee.

Nick Borenstein, Webby Awards general manager, said winners like Fishermen Integrated are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the internet.

“It is an incredible achievement to be shortlisted among the best from the nearly 13,000 entries we received this year.

“Winning a Webby is an outstanding accomplishment, achieved by only the top 4% of all entered work.

“It is a testament to the skill, ingenuity and vision of its creators, regardless of whether they were selected by our judging academy or chosen by the online voting public for the People’s Voice Awards,” he added. – May 17, 2024
