Julina Johan named new head of Japen

She moves up from deputy DG post to take on Information Dept’s top role

PUTRAJAYA – Julina Johan has been appointed as the new director-general of the Information Department (Japen), effective today.

Japen’s media and corporate communication division, in a statement today, said Julina was the 19th DG and the second woman ever appointed to lead the department since its establishment in 1945.

Julina, 53, is formerly Japen deputy DG for digital content – a post she had held since last year.

Throughout her career in public service, Julina, who hails from Johor, has also served at various ministries, including the Education Ministry; Women, Family and Community Development Ministry; Federal Territories ministry; and the Finance Ministry, as well as the Prime Minister’s Department.

“With her extensive experience, knowledge and credibility, it is believed that she will be able to strengthen governance and continue the excellence of Japen,” the statement said.

The holder of a master’s degree in corporate communications from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Julina joined the public service in 1996 and has vast experience in government public relations and strategic communications. – May 13, 2024
