[OFFICIAL] PH’s Pang wins Kuala Kubu Baharu with more than 3,000-vote majority

PH retains the state seat, denying PN a sweep of state seats under the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency

KUALA KUBU BAHARU – Two weeks of election campaigning have come down to the next few hours as the four candidates wait for one of them to be declared the winner.

Realistically, the race is between Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Pang Sock Tao and Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Khairul Azhari Saut, as they are supported by their respective coalition leadership.

Voting at all 18 polling centres in the state seat closed by 6pm, except for SJK(C) Bukit Fraser which closed at 2pm as it was catering to only 40 voters.

A total of 39,362 voters are expected to have cast their ballots today.

9.50pm: The Election Commission has confirmed that PH’s Pang won the state seat with a 3,869-vote majority. In total, she won 14,000 votes while PN’s Khairul garnered 10,131. 

The independent candidate received 188 and PRM only had 152.

EC also said the voter turnout stood at 61.51% while spoilt votes amounted to 263.

9.30pm: Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said in a statement that Pang’s win is a signal that voters do not want a “divisive agent” representing them as citizens. Instead, they are looking for unity to advance the nation’s economy and improve overall wellbeing.

He also said that DAP’s victory is an acknowledgment of late Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong’s service for the constituency, which she had helmed since 2013.

8.30pm: Prime Minister and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulates Pang on her win.

8.24pm: Of 24,475 votes (61%) counted, PH have secured 14,000 votes so far. Meanwhile, PN obtained 10,135 votes.

Independent Nyau and PRM remained with low three-digit vote totals of 188 and 152, respectively. They are expected to lose their deposit with the Election Commission.

8.12pm: PH will continue to hold on to Kuala Kubu Baharu, denying PN a sweep of the state seats under the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency.

PH’s Pang Sock Tao garnered 13,872 votes, as compared to PN’s Khairul Azhari Saut, who received 9,875.

Of the 60% total votes counted, PH has won 35%, while PN takes 26%. Trailing far behind is independent candidate Nyau with 188 votes and PRM with 152.

7.57pm: Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki congratulates PH’s Pang for supposedly winning the Kuala Kubu Baharu race, saying she won the seat by more than 3,000 votes.

7.45pm: PH has 9,530 votes, equivalent to 24% of the total ballots, while PN has 6,148 (16%). The independent candidate has 131 votes, while PRM remains at 97.

7:32pm: With 30% of total votes counted, PH is leading with 7,669 votes (19%) and PN is behind with 4,263 votes (11%).

Meanwhile, independent Nyau has 101 votes, leaving PRM in last place again with 72 votes.

7.16pm: PN is catching up, garnering 2,368 votes as opposed to PH’s 4,897. The independent candidate has 52, while PRM got 33 votes.

7.08pm: PH has garnered 3,568 votes, some 9% of the ballots, while PN collected 1,274. Independent Nyau has 37 votes and PRM only has 20.

6.57pm: PH continues to extend its lead with 1,676 votes while PN is trailing behind with 311.
PRM has three, while the independent got six votes.

6.46pm: PH widens lead with 1,093 votes, PN trailing with 270. This is followed by independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin getting three votes, while PRM’s Hafizah Zainudin has two.

6.40pm: PH leading with 904 votes. PN has garnered 263 votes so far. PRM and the independent have each received two votes.

6.15pm: PH has garnered 693 votes so far, while PN has 221.

5.11pm: Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki tweeted that PH is leading with 436 votes after the early votes were counted.
