KUALA KUBU BAHARU – After speculations arose, it seems that Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Khairul Azhari Saut did not receive a gag order to not speak to the media either.
Selangor PN chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali rubbished the notion, saying Khairul was busy meeting locals ahead of the polling day tomorrow.
“There’s no gag order. I have said before this, we will occasionally meet and speak with the media – who are important friends for the campaign,” he told reporters after a prayer event here tonight.
“(This is) so they can disseminate accurate and fair information to the voters, before they make a decision tomorrow.
“It is just that today, (Khairul) was crisscrossing many locations as we identified several areas after visitations where we want voters to physically meet the candidate and get to know him better.”
It was reported earlier today that the PN leadership ordered Khairul to remain silent on the last day of the campaign.
It is also understood that Khairul is not allowed to issue any statements until polling day tomorrow.
Earlier, Pakatan Harapan election director Ng Sze Han also dismissed speculations that its candidate Pang Sock Tao was given gag orders from the higher-ups.
He said she was swamped with attending final events before polling day tomorrow.
Polling day for the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat is set for tomorrow, May 11. It was vacated following the death of assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong last month.
Besides Khairul and Pang, Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), and Nyau Ke Xin (independent) are also vying for the seat. – May 10, 2024
