Mandatory for Muslims to choose Muslim leaders, Hadi Awang asserts

PAS president also says those claiming it is compulsory to vote for anyone are deemed ‘nonsensical, misguided, contradicting Quran and prophet’

KUALA KUBU BAHARU – PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has reminded the voters of Kuala Kubu Baharu that electing a Muslim leader is mandatory.

The Marang MP also said that those who claim it is compulsory to vote for anyone are deemed nonsensical, misguided, and in contradiction with the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad’s hadith.

“For our country, political leaders must be Muslims. Choosing Muslim leaders and spreading the message of Islam is important.

“Anyone claiming that they can vote for anyone (in the by-election) is nonsense, as it goes against the Quran and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad,” he said during his speech at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceramah in Bandar Utama Batang Kali, last night.

The PN deputy chairman said that while some may find his comments strange, he said that in Islam, there are political laws.

He also cautioned Umno members and supporters in Selangor against repeating the same mistake of losing political authority, as seen in the situation in Singapore.

“DAP, an offshoot of the People’s Action Party (PAP) in Singapore, is an extreme party with the ambition to subversively seize political control and incite unrest within the nation.

“In the lead-up to our impending independence in 1957, before the 1955 election, the victorious alliance comprised Umno, MCA, and MIC, with PAS securing one seat.

“There was a consultation, and in that consultation, we (PAS) insisted, based on the political situation in Malaysia that Islam be placed as the federal religion. But at the same time, other religions are given the right to freedom.

“When DAP emerged, it created chaos. DAP originated as a branch of the PAP party in Singapore, founded by Lee Kuan Yew.

“During the formation of Malaysia, Singapore joined, and the PAP established a presence in Malaysia.

“DAP has an agenda to gain political power in a subtle and cunning way,” he said.

Hadi said that in the 1950s, the deputy chief minister of Singapore was Abdul Hamid Jumat, who was also the founder of Umno in Singapore and was a Malay.

“Lee strategised. He planned to field candidates from diverse ethnic backgrounds – Malays, Chinese, and Indians – in his campaign, resulting in his victory in Singapore.

“Subsequently, he appointed Yusof Ishak as the president of Singapore.

“He appointed a Malay minister in Singapore, while Lee Kuan Yew assumed the role of chief minister. Over time, due to this political strategy, Malay political influence diminished in Singapore.

“Do the people of Selangor want to become Singapore? Umno members need to understand this.

“This is the DAP stance, which has a well-defined agenda of fostering a Malaysian identity, transcending racial divides, but remember that all Malaysian ethnicities are Allah’s creations,” he said.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election tomorrow will witness a four-way contest between Pang Sock Tao from Pakatan Harapan, Khairul Azhari Saut representing PN, Hafizah Zainuddin from Parti Rakyat Malaysia, and Nyau Ke Xin running independently. – May 10, 2024
