KUALA KUBU BAHARU – Preparations are underway by the Election Commission (EC) for tomorrow’s polling day in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
Polling station heads gathered at the Kuala Kubu Baharu Multipurpose Hall and Sports Complex as early as 8.30am for a briefing session.
EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak is confident that the polls will run smoothly as election officers who will be on duty tomorrow are well prepared.
“Everything is running smoothly. The preparation today is to ensure that all election equipment is sufficient.
“Many officers here are experienced. I have also gone through (such procedures) three times. We hope with the experience, they can understand and solve any issue, as well as who to call for advice,” he told reporters here today.
Meanwhile, Ikmalrudin encouraged voters to schedule their voting time in advance to prevent overcrowding at the polling centre.
Tomorrow, a total of 18 polling centres, each equipped with 74 voting channels, will be open for the by-election.
Four candidates are vying to secure the state seat, including Pang Sock Tao (Pakatan Harapan), Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), and Nyau Ke Xin (independent).
It is understood that none of the candidates will be casting their ballots here tomorrow.
The constituency has 40,226 registered voters, with 97% of early voters exercising their rights by casting their ballots on May 7.
The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat was vacated following the death of assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong in March due to cancer.
Lee, who had been commended for her contributions to the constituency, had defended the seat for PH-DAP since winning it in 2013. – May 10, 2024
