Flash floods hit Klang Valley after downpour

Kajang, Sg Buloh, Batu Caves, Petaling Jaya, Putrajaya are some of the areas affected

KUALA LUMPUR – Parts of the Klang Valley are experiencing floods after heavy rainfall this evening. 

In an incident report, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said it had deployed a seven-personnel team to rescue an elderly wheelchair-bound woman from her home after reports of water entering her home. 

Based on images provided by the department, water had reached ankle-level in the 86-year-old woman’s home at Kg Sg Kantan. 

The woman has since been evacuated and brought to higher ground.

Meanwhile, Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan tweeted an image of pedestrians wading through knee-deep waters while holding umbrellas amid the downpour. 

“Because of such heavy rainfall, many places in Kajang are facing increased water levels, which have caused extraordinary traffic jams. Be careful everyone,” the DAP lawmaker said in the caption.

While X user @FaizulZain posted an image of cars passing through inundated roads in Kajang, Astro Radio Traffic informed that floods are causing further delays in parts of the locality, as well as Damansara Damai, Kepong, Sg Buloh, Batu Caves, Gombak, Petaling Jaya, Seri Kembangan and Putrajaya. 

In a Facebook post, the Malaysian Highway Authority reported that flash floods were heading east from Country Heights to the Sg Ramal toll plaza. – May 8, 2024
