KUALA KUBU BAHARU – Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Khairul Azhari Saut has finally launched his manifesto for Kuala Kubu Baharu, five days before the by-election.
He promises to deliver quality and sustainable development, environmental sustainability, as well as local economy empowerment for the state seat.
He also aims to tap into the potential of the youth and women, besides protecting the welfare of minority communities such as the Orang Asli and people with disabilities.
At the launch of his manifesto here today, Khairul Azhari, 54, highlighted his recent visit to an Orang Asli village.
“I went to Batu 30 where the local Orang Asli community have been facing flood issues for more than 30 years and until now with no solutions,” he said, adding that with improvements to the village, he would consider nominating it to Unesco.
“Additionally, I will also ensure that development (in Kuala Kubu Baharu) is disability-friendly, especially with regards to public infrastructure,” he said at the launch at Dataran BizBox, here.
For youth and women, he said he would improve sports opportunities for the former, and socioeconomic programmes for the latter.
Also present were Selangor PN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
There are some similarities between his manifesto and that of his main rival, Pang Sock Tao, 31 – the unity government’s candidate from DAP.
Pang, who launched hers two days ago, focused on improving the local economy, facilities, environment and recreation, heritage and culture, and public wellbeing.
Like Pang, Khairul Azhari said he also wanted to promote Kuala Kubu Baharu as an ecotourism area that would boost economic activity for the locals.
He and Pang will be in a four-cornered fight for the seat this Saturday.
The other candidates are Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (independent). – May 6, 2024
