KUALA LUMPUR – The National Press Club of Malaysia (NPC) and enterprise solutions platform provider Macrokiosk have announced the second series of the NPC-Macrokiosk Muhibbah Awards, which aim to recognise individuals, groups, or organisations that promote unity and goodwill throughout Malaysia.

The Muhibbah Awards, initiated last year, saw a remarkable impact on fostering the spirit of muhibbah, a term representing goodwill and harmony, throughout Malaysia.

Building upon this success, the 2024 edition seeks to further celebrate acts of kindness and compassion that exemplify the essence of muhibbah.

NPC president Datuk Ahirudin Attan expressed his satisfaction with the inaugural series, highlighting its role in reminding Malaysians about the importance of unity and goodwill.

He emphasised the significance of honouring those who embody the muhibbah spirit, envisioning them to be remembered in history for their contributions to society.

“I am particularly pleased to witness the continuation of this award series. By honouring those who exemplify the muhibbah spirit, we celebrate the unity of our nation while highlighting the importance of kindness and compassion in our society.

“Above and beyond the recognition, we hope our Muhibbah Awards will eventually earn their recipients a place in history as individuals and organisations that have truly gone beyond the call of duty to help one another,” Ahirudin, who is also executive director of Big Boom Media, which publishes Scoop, said.

Macrokiosk co-founder and chief executive, Datuk Kenny Goh, echoed this sentiment, noting the positive impact of last year’s awards on bringing Malaysians together. He underscored the importance of inspiring more acts of care and generosity within the community.

“We are excited to once again work with NPC to launch this second series of our Muhibbah Awards. We hope the awards will continue to inspire more Malaysians to care for each other,” said Goh.

To this, Ahirudin added: “Many acts of selfless service have gone unnoticed, and it’s high time that kindness is acknowledged and rewarded. We aspire for this second series of awards to further fortify our society and foster unity across our nation.

The Muhibbah Awards, which include a cash prize of RM2,000 and a certificate, aim to shine a light on selfless service that often goes unnoticed.

Nominations for the awards can be submitted via email, WhatsApp, scanning a QR code, or through the Macrokiosk website.

The selection process for the winners involves a panel of judges comprising media editors and senior journalists. In its inaugural series, the Muhibbah Awards celebrated six winners, and with the 2024 edition, even more inspiring narratives of compassion and dedication are expected.

Founded in 1948, the NPC is a non-profit organisation that hosts social events for media practitioners and organises talks and workshops on media practices and current events affecting the profession.
