KUALA LUMPUR – Heavy rains since last night have caused flooding in several areas of Meru, Klang, early this morning.

Residents have shared updates and photos on the Meru Klang Residents Official Facebook page, noting that the affected areas as of 7.45am are Persiaran Hamzah Alang, Taman Seri Puteri, Taman Daya, and Jalan Kasban.

A video shared by a resident, Aizad Yahya, from Persiaran Hamzah Alang showed water flooding his entire house.

“Assalamualaikum and happy Hari Raya to everyone. Taman Seri Puteri experienced a severe flood this morning during the month of Syawal. Look at this picture,” Putera Alam Shah Badrul, another local resident, said.

In the photos he shared, water could be seen rising both outside and inside his house.

“Water has entered the house, and others have faced the same fate…,” shared Ejoi Klanong.

It is understood that Sekolah Rendah Agama Meru and Batu 5 have begun to experience flooding following the heavy rain.

Residents, particularly parents, used social media to ask about flood information and routes to help them commute to work or drive their children to school.

“Hi, I want to ask if SK Meru Jalan Tap is still open?” asked Nora Slamy.

“Is there any information about Jalan Paip? Is SK Meru 2 flooded?” Aznan Ghadafi asked before a resident confirmed that the area had been flooded since yesterday.

Yesterday, Scoop reported that the Kg Melayu area in Subang also experienced flooding after more than an hour of heavy rain.

Several main roads were cut off as a result of the nearby river overflowing, causing homes to flood.

Temporary relief centres were set up at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Merbau Sempak in response to the flash flood that struck the Paya Jaras area last night.

The Petaling district office said that the decision to open the centre at SK Merbau Sempak was made following discussions with relevant agencies, citing the school’s larger capacity to accommodate more victims. – April 17, 2024
