KUALA LUMPUR – The wife of the bodyguard who was shot early this morning at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA) said the tragic event during the month of Syawal was unexpected.

“I was shocked and did not expect something like this to happen in the month of Syawal,” she said.

Siti Noraida, 28, said she rushed to Cyberjaya Hospital to visit her husband who was receiving treatment there, after hearing about the incident at about 2am.

“The hospital informed me that my husband’s condition is now critical and he needs to be in an induced coma.

“I was also told that he was experiencing severe bleeding and shortness of breath when he arrived at the hospital – but fortunately, no vital organs were hit by the gunshot,” she told Bernama.

The full-time housewife said her husband was assigned as a part-time bodyguard before last Ramadan.

Earlier, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that there had been a shooting at the KLIA Terminal 1 arrival hall early this morning.

The incident involved a male suspect whose identity has been identified and he is believed to have fled to the north.

He said the suspect had targeted his wife, but the bullet missed her and hit her bodyguard instead.

At the time of the incident, he said the suspect’s wife was believed to be waiting for umrah pilgrims to return.

Hussein confirmed that the involved suspect is currently undergoing divorce proceedings with his wife, adding that the incident is personal and not linked to any terrorist activity.

The motive behind the incident is still under police investigation, and the case is classified as attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code and the Firearms Act.

Additionally, Bukit Aman criminal investigation chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said that the suspect, identified as Hafizul Harawi, 38, is the targeted woman’s husband as well as her business partner.

He also confirmed that the targeted woman is in the early stages of pregnancy.

Earlier, a video of the shooting emerged on social media, capturing the sound of screams and showing people ducking down.
