KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a Level 1 warning of extreme dry and hot weather conditions in 14 areas, including Sabah and Sarawak, as of 4.30pm, as scorching heat spreads across the country.

The department, in a statement, said that among the areas affected are Perlis and Kedah (including Langkawi Island, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Sik, Baling, and Bandar Baharu).

Kelantan, particularly Gua Musang, is also expected to experience the Level 1 hot weather.

The forecast also said similar extreme weather conditions are anticipated in Mukah and Telang Usan in Sarawak, as well as Tuaran and Tenom in Sabah.

People residing in these areas can expect temperatures of 35°C to 37°C for at least three days in a row.

MetMalaysia categorises heatwaves as temperatures hovering between 37°C and 40°C consistently for three consecutive days, with anything surpassing this threshold considered an extreme heatwave. – April 11, 2024
