KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued warnings for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds in most areas of the country this evening.
In a Facebook post today, the department said that in the northern states, several areas in Kedah, including Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Baling, Kulim, and the Bandar Baharu districts, are expected to experience bad weather.
North, central, and south Seberang Perai in Penang are also expected to experience similar weather conditions, it said.
“Bad weather is also expected to hit Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang, and Muallim in Perak.
On the east coast, heavy rain is expected to hit Jeli and Gua Musang in Kelantan, as well as several districts in Pahang, including Cameron Highlands, Lipis, and Jerantut.
“Bad weather is also predicted in Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat, and Sepang in Selangor, as well as in Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, and Tampin in Negri Sembilan.
“Rain is expected to affect the entire state of Melaka and Johor this afternoon,” the department said.
Meanwhile, warnings of heavy rain and strong winds have also been issued in Sarawak, particularly in Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Song), Miri (Beluru, Telang Usan, and Marudi), and Limbang.
“In Sabah, adverse weather conditions are expected in Tawau, Lahad Datu, and Sandakan (Kinabatangan),” the department said.
According to MetMalaysia, the thunderstorm warning is a short-term advisory valid for up to six hours.
