KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) has appointed Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han as the election director for the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Selangor PH secretary Khairuddin Othman said he and Ng, who is also serving as a state executive councillor, will be assisted by Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin and Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof for the polls.

In a statement, Khairuddin said the team aims to establish key committees to oversee various aspects of the election process, commencing from the candidate nomination day on April 27, 2024 until polling day on May 11, 2024.

“This team will coordinate the work and campaign that will be drawn up by Selangor PH, and prepare and coordinate tasks related to the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election campaign with PHn and the parties in the unity government,” he said.

“After the list of candidates submitted by the Democratic Action Party (DAP) is decided by the central PH (leadership), Selangor PH will organise the PH candidate announcement ceremony for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election which will take place before the nomination day.”

This announcement comes after the Selangor PH leadership met today to finalise its candidate.

Yesterday, DAP deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo said that during the PH meeting in Shah Alam, several names will be proposed for consideration including from the Women’s wing.

On Thursday, the Election Commission set polling day for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on May 11, while nominations and early voting day will be on April 27 and May 7 respectively.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat became vacant following the demise of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong from DAP on March 21.

Lee, 58, who had been the Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyman under the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency since 2013, had battled cancer for several years.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is the seventh by-election to be held after the 15th general election in 2022.

The electoral roll for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election comprises a total of 40,226 registered voters consisting of 39,362 regular voters, 625 police personnel, 238 military personnel and spouses, and one absentee voter residing abroad. – April 7, 2024
