KUALA LUMPUR – The “balik kampung” traffic rush along KM11.2 of the DUKE highway heading towards Ulu Kelang came to a near standstill after a sand-laden lorry caught fire, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.
In a statement today, the department said a team comprising 24 officers from the department’s Keramat and Setapak stations was dispatched to the scene upon receiving a distress call around 4.16pm.

The operation involved two fire engines, along with eight members of the Gombak Volunteer Fire Brigade and four personnel from the Civil Defence Department.
“The operation team (identified) the incident involving a sand-laden lorry. However, there were no victims involved in the incident, which has caused total loss of the vehicle,” the statement read.
The department is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
