PUTRAJAYA – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will meet with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today to discuss the list of candidates for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat.

“In the meeting, we will listen to the parties as they present their list of candidates,” he said in a press conference at his office here.

The discussion will also be regarding the coalition’s machinery and the logistics involved in setting up the campaigning efforts.

Earlier today, the Election Commission announced that May 11 would be the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election’s polling day, while April 27 would be the nomination day.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat fell vacant after the death of its representative Lee Kee Hiong from DAP, on March 21. She died due to cancer.

For the time being, the Kuala Kubu Baharu constituency matters are handled by Bandar Utama assemblyman and state executive councillor Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who is also from DAP.

Amirudin said Jamaliah had been handling Kuala Kubu Baharu constituency issues since last month as Lee’s health worsened.

Although the constituency now has more than 50% of Malay voters, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party will not contest either, out of respect that the seat belonged to a component of the unity government. – April 4, 2024
