KUALA LUMPUR – The individual known as Ganesparan Nadaraja who recently posted a viral video insulting the Sultan of Selangor is not in Malaysia as police continue to pursue 22 open cases against him.

Bukit Aman’s criminal investigation department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the individual is no stranger when it comes to 3R (race, religion, and royalty) issues.

He added that the individual has been playing up 3R issues since 2018. As of yesterday, there have been 22 cases opened against him.

“He was not in the country when we investigated him in 2018. And he hasn’t returned until now. So, we believe the recently viral video was recorded outside of the country.

“We have charged him in absentia in 2021. At that time, he insulted and defamed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the then-prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“We believe the current course of investigation, from the two police reports lodged against him recently will also lead to the same action (in 2021).

“(But) we are still investigating him, now. We’ll take necessary statements as well as getting profiling from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to streamline our investigation before submitting it to the Attorney-General’s Chamber for further instruction,” he said in a press conference at Bukit Aman here today.

He also said the police are currently investigating the individual under Section 29A, 504, and 505C of the Penal Code, Section 41 of the Sedition Act 1948 as well as Section 233 of the MCMC Act.

He said the police believed the individual was currently residing in one of the European countries.

“We have applied to put the individual under the Interpol’s red notice.

“But under Article 3 of the organisation’s convention, issues relating to race or religion are not listed as offences so there is no red notice issued against him.

“We applied to the Immigration Department to revoke his passport, and they answered our application by revoking the individual’s passport in November 2020.”

A video uploaded by the individual allegedly containing offensive and derogatory remarks against the Selangor royalty went viral recently.

Yesterday, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil urged MCMC to take strict action against any party intentionally sowing seeds of division and making inflammatory remarks.

He also called on all agencies under the Communications Ministry to act as “agents” to defuse the situation and help restore calm. – March 27, 2024
