KUALA LUMPUR – A senior civil servant with an enforcement agency has been remanded on suspicion of colluding with others to make false claims for ship maintenance amounting to RM1.18 million.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Kedah obtained a remand order for the individual, who is in his 40s, from magistrate Siti Noor Hasliza Md Ali at the Alor Star magistrate’s court this morning.
The officer was arrested around 5pm yesterday at the Kedah MACC office, where he was summoned for his statement.
MACC obtained four remand orders yesterday for four people involved in the same case.
Among the four are a company owner and a logistics enforcement director.
They are suspected of falsifying claims for maintenance work on a vessel belonging to an enforcement agency between July and November 2020.
Kedah MACC director Ahmad Nizam Ismail, who confirmed the arrest and remand order, said the investigation is being conducted under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. – March 27, 2024
