KUALA LUMPUR – Police will be calling up the management of KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd and a few individuals following the “Allah”-printed socks controversy.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told Bernama that the statements would be recorded this week as the investigation into the incident was being conducted.
Meanwhile, Bukit Aman’s criminal investigation department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said two investigation papers had been opened to probe into the sale of socks with the word “Allah” at a KK Super Mart outlet in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya.
He added that the case was being investigated by the classified crime investigation unit under the prosecution/law division.
“The case is being probed so we are advising the public to not speculate on the issue on social media.”
In addition, Johor Islamic Religious Affairs executive councillor Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid told reporters that a factory based in Batu Pahat would be investigated for manufacturing the socks.
“We support all legal action taken against the parties involved and are ready to help the authorities. We will mobilise our enforcement agencies if needed for raids or joint operations.
“Let this incident be a lesson… we ask all the people of Johor to continue to monitor and report if they come across such items.”
Today, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah revealed that 36 police reports had been lodged against the convenience store chain over the contentious socks.
He added that police opened an investigation paper on March 14 under Section 298A of the Penal Code (insulting any religion) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (misuse of network facilities).
Shamsul told the Dewan Rakyat today that checks by enforcement officers at all KK Mart outlets found that the socks were no longer being sold on its premises.
Over the weekend, Umno Youth gave the chain store’s management two days to erect banners in all of its branches nationwide to apologise for the sale of socks printed with the word “Allah.” – March 18, 2024
