KUALA LUMPUR – Twelve-year-old Siti Dhia Batrisyia Chairil Anwar, who was reported missing since Tuesday, failed to return home following a disagreement with her mother, according to reports.

When contacted by Scoop, the child’s mother, Syarifah Rosfazila Syed Muhammad Fazili, 41, said that the last time she was with her eldest daughter, fondly known as Dhia, was at their home in Flat Sri Selangor on Jalan San Peng in Pudu around 4pm that day.

According to her, they had a disagreement after she received a WhatsApp message from Dhia’s school teacher informing her that her daughter was absent from school.

When Dhia returned home in the evening, she asked why her daughter had skipped school and where she had gone before being informed that the daughter had bought a gift to surprise Syarifah and her husband on their wedding anniversary.

“When I asked her why she needed to go (buy the gift) during school hours, she said she was worried she would not have time later. I asked again who she went with, and she mentioned her friend named Iman, whom I don’t know.

“I got angry and scolded her for what she did was wrong, telling her that I would report the matter to her father and even consider taking and keeping her mobile phone.

“After that, I went out to buy groceries for breaking fast, but when I got home, Dhia was nowhere to be found, while her 9-year-old sibling was asleep,” she said.

Syarifah said she became increasingly worried when her daughter had not returned home, even after breaking fast.

“Usually, she would go to her friends’ houses around this area. My husband and I then searched for her, asking and contacting Dhia’s friends, but none of them knew her whereabouts. Dhia didn’t bring her phone, she only had her SIM card with her.

“There are various stories, some say my daughter went to this place, some friends say Dhia followed an unknown man allegedly known through social media,” she said.

She said the next day, around 10am, she and her husband made a report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters regarding their missing child.

When asked about her daughter’s behaviour, Syarifah said that Dhia is cheerful, sociable, and respectful, and does not speak rudely.

“Dhia has never been away for long nor failed to return home, she has also never mentioned any male acquaintance, and her sibling has never seen her with any boy, either at school or around our neighbourhood,” she said.

Meanwhile, Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya confirmed that a report was received by his department yesterday.

“The case has been classified as a missing persons case, and efforts to locate her are underway,” he said. – March 15, 2024
