KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry has received a total of 259 complaints related to alleged bullying over the span of one and a half years.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni (Sibuti-GPS) said from the total number of complaints received, 52 were forwarded by medical officers.
He said six of the cases were found to have elements of bullying and were undergoing investigations for verification and evidence purposes.
However, he said the remaining 46 were found to be other complaints such as service issues, applications for promotions and transfers, among others.
Lukanisman said the total 259 complaints had been received since the ministry launched its MyHelp system on October 1, 2022.
The deputy minister was responding to a parliamentary question posed by V. Ganabatirau (Klang-PH) on the statistics of medical trainees who did not manage to complete their housemanship and the number of bullying cases reported to the ministry.
Lukanisman said based on records between 2021 and 2023, a total of 1,059 graduate medical trainees had resigned.
This involved 384 in 2021, another 420 in 2022 and 255 in 2023.
He said throughout the same period, the ministry had also received 475 applications and appeals to reinstate the housemen who resigned.
They consisted of 78 applications in 2021, 185 in 2022 and 213 in 2023. – March 14, 2024
