KUALA LUMPUR – A woman in Melaka encountered a stroke of bad luck when she was forced to purchase two containers of beef soup at a bazaar for ‘buka puasa’, only to discover that they were contaminated with fly eggs.

The woman shared on social media that the incident happened when she went to the Ramadan bazaar in Semabok Perdana, Melaka, from Johor Bahru  because she wanted to break her fast with a large pot of hot beef soup.

However, when she tried to buy a container of the beef soup priced at RM5 each, the seller insisted that she buy two, citing the deliciousness of his beef soup.

“ I told him I only wanted one container because I would be eating alone. But he insisted on giving me another bowl of soup without meat.

“I paid with a RM10 note and waited for my change for one container of soup, but the ‘uncle’ still insisted on selling two containers for RM10. I gave in,” she said.

Unfortunately, when she arrived home, she was shocked to discover fly eggs in the beef bone she had purchased from the stall.

“I don’t intend to shame anyone, but upon returning home and preparing to break my fast, I noticed fly eggs ‘comfortably nestled’ on the beef bone. Is this what he meant by ‘delicious’?”

“The meat had a foul odour, leaving me feeling upset and disappointed. I hope that anyone who comes across this post will convey my regards to the seller. We shall meet again in the afterlife,” she said.

The post went viral on social media, receiving a wide range of reactions from users.

Following the post, another netizen shared his experience buying chicken tofu (begedil) at the same bazaar last year, only to discover that it contained only potatoes and no chicken.

“Last year, I bought chicken tofu ‘begedil’ at that bazaar. It was my first and last time buying it there,” said user Ct Umar.

Meanwhile, another netizen claimed to have been tricked by a fried cempedak seller at a Ramadan bazaar in Melaka.

He said that the seller did not use real cempedak to make the snack but instead used old jackfruit.

“You should be cautious when purchasing the fried ‘cempedak’ at the Taman Cempaka bazaar, located in front of Melaka Central.

“Despite its name, they actually use old jackfruit, with roots sprouting from the seeds. I fell victim to this scam, spending RM15 on what I believed to be authentic cempedak,” said user Iman Ozil. – March 14, 2024
