Muda not joining any coalition, says Amira Aisya after Syed Saddiq’s invite to PN tour

Youth-based party’s acting president says it will remain a third force

KUALA LUMPUR – Muda remains on its own despite suggestions for it to join Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) political roadshow, its acting president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz said.

“Muda remains a sole political party without supporting any bloc, whether Umno-Pakatan Harapan or Perikatan Nasional.

“This is why Muda has not signed any agreement to join any party until today. Muda’s official position in the Dewan Rakyat is independent,” she said in a statement to Scoop.

The suggestion for Muda to join PN’s nationwide tour after Aidilfitri was made by the youth-based party’s former president, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, earlier today, claiming it would benefit the people.

His own participation in the tour was announced by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Saturday, who described Syed Saddiq as “pro-PN” even though he was not joining the coalition or its parties.

Amira Aisya today said the matter of joining PN’s roadshow had never been discussed in Muda’s central executive committee (CEC) meetings, echoing a post on X by Muda secretary-general Amir Hariri Abd Hadi to distance the party from PN’s tour.

Neither has Muda ever had an official meeting with PN, Amira Aisya, who is Puteri Wangsa assemblyperson, added.

“Any form of cooperation has never been discussed, let alone agreed upon.”

She said any discussion involving strategic issues and collaboration with other political parties for any political activity must be decided by Muda’s CEC first, and decisions would be announced on its official channels.

Referring to Muda’s previous cooperation with other parties, she said Muda had joined forces with Parti Sosialis Malaysia specifically to raise issues affecting the people that went beyond race and religion.

After Muhyiddin’s announcement and Amir Hariri’s distancing of Muda from the PN roadshow, social media users have questioned if action would be taken against Syed Saddiq if he had acted unilaterally.

Asked about possible disciplinary action, Amira Aisya told Scoop this did not arise, as neither Syed Saddiq – who is Muda’s sole MP – nor the party had made a decision on the roadshow.

Syed Saddiq today said he would present his idea for Muda’s participation in PN’s tour to his party’s leadership for discussion.

He stepped down as Muda president in November last year after the high court found him guilty of two counts of money laundering, one count of criminal breach of trust and one count of misappropriating Bersatu-linked funds amounting to RM1.12 million. – March 11, 2024
