PUTRAJAYA – Putrajaya has served notices to Felda and the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) to explain the massive losses outlined in the 2022 Auditor-General’s Report that was released on Wednesday.
This is for the agencies to prepare a detailed explanation in two weeks on their poor financial performance.
“Even though this is from the 2022 audit, we want a full report so we can fix any weaknesses and improve where we can,” said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after Friday prayers near the police headquarters here today.
“Following which, the cabinet will bring it up for discussion.”
Accompanying Anwar were religious affairs minister Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
On Wednesday, the A-G’s report found that Felda recorded losses amounting to RM1.005 billion.
In the 2022 financial statements, it was discovered that Felda held a comparatively low cash and cash equivalent position, with losses of RM0.808 billion for the year ending December 31, 2022.
Furthermore, the report also disclosed that LTAT encountered negative reserves totalling RM0.388 billion in 2022.
On the need to form a special committee to investigate the matter, Anwar said the government would first look closely into the report.
“After that, we should afford the relevant ministries and agencies the chance to provide clarifications. What is important is that we must address and rectify any shortcomings, deficiencies and weaknesses,” he added. – March 8, 2024
