KUALA LUMPUR – Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari must come forward to provide an explanation regarding his reported support for the leadership of Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, said Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Azmin, who is also Hulu Langat assemblyman, said PN had strongly condemned Rashid’s actions if the reports on the matter are true, as it is considered a betrayal of his electoral mandate.

“This is an act of betrayal and irresponsibility towards the mandate given by the people. He should come forward to provide an explanation because this has caused anger among the people, especially in Selat Klang.

“I suggest that he be fair and honourable by coming forward to deny the matter (if it was untrue),” he told a press conference during the Selangor assembly sitting today.

At the same time, Azmin denied a report that five other PN Selangor assemblymen would follow in Rashid’s footsteps.

Addressing the five PN assemblymen – Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh (Dengkil), Datuk Harrison Hassan (Jeram), Rosnizan Ahmad (Morib), Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad (Sg Kandis), and Muhammad Muhaimin Harith Abdullah Sani (Batang Kali) – who are rumoured to have decided to back Amirudin, Azmin expressed his desire to avoid unnecessary controversy and focus on serving the constituents.

“There’s no need to involve everyone. The people want us to deliver the best service, and that’s exactly what we aim to do. This is not the first session; this is the second session.”

Azmin also revealed that more PN members were interested in contesting in by-elections and the general election.

Earlier today, Bersatu’s Selat Klang assemblyman, Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari, declared his support for Amirudin’s leadership.

Rashid, a former Selangor Bersatu chief, said that his decision was voluntary and came about without any coercion.

He added that the decision was made for the wellbeing of his constituents, who would benefit from a stable state government.

Meanwhile, Jeram assemblyman Harrison refuted claims that he was among the Bersatu representatives in Selangor rumoured to be switching his support to Amirudin.

A Pakatan Harapan-linked website today alleged that five Bersatu assemblymen in Selangor would announce their support for Amirudin’s government, purportedly due to dissatisfaction with Azmin. – March 6, 2024
