Man dies in Banting quarry landslide

Firefighters take 15 minutes to extract 38-year-old victim who was buried up to chest level

KUALA LUMPUR – A 38-year-old man has died after a landslide today in the Lion Mining quarry along Jalan Sg Kelambu near Banting, Selangor.

Banting Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Zaharul Ezzad Abdul Latiff, in a brief statement, said the department received a distress call from the public at around 12.34 this afternoon.

Following the call, five members of the department were swiftly deployed, reaching the scene in a fire rescue tender.

Upon arrival, they discovered the victim buried up to chest level. Firefighters successfully extricated him within 15 minutes, but Health Ministry staffers later confirmed his death.

Zaharul said that the body of the deceased would be handed over to police for further investigation. – March 6, 2024
