Man suffering 80% burns after explosion at Bangsar nasi kandar shop

Victim rushed to KL Hospital for treatment, says Fire Dept

KUALA LUMPUR – A 45-year-old local man is suffering from burns on 80% of his body as a result of an explosion at a nasi kandar shop in Bangsar here today.

The Fire and Rescue Department has said in a statement that the man has been rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

The 44-person team managed to put out the blaze in less than an hour at 12.40pm after the emergency call was placed at 11.44am. 

“We are still at the scene investigating the cause of the blast. The 40 by 100 sq ft restaurant is about 70% damaged.

“The rescue team comprised personnel from the Pantai, Seputeh, Jalan Hang Tuah and Sri Hartamas stations.”

Earlier, Brickfields police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood told Scoop that an explosion took place in Bangsar.

“Yes, there was an explosion at an eatery in Bangsar. So far, one person is injured.”

A social media user shared a photo of the shop engulfed in smoke and that the windows were shaking from the blast. – March 6, 2024
