KUALA LUMPUR – Transport Minister Anthony Loke’s former political secretary, Datuk Dahlan Maamor, has officially joined Bersatu today.
Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin shared the news on his Facebook page today with a picture of him shaking hands with Dahlan.
In the same post, Hamzah said that Dahlan contacted him last week, saying that he was interested in joining Bersatu because he is attracted to its tenacity.
He also mentioned that Dahlan, a former media practitioner, is critical and honest in giving opinions or criticism.
Hamzah welcomed Dahlan by saying: “Selamat datang ke Bersatu” (Welcome to Bersatu) in the post.
Dahlan was the political secretary for Loke from 2018 to 2020.
In line with welcoming a new member, Bersatu recently approved an amendment to Article 10 of the party’s constitution during its special general meeting.
Its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, said the amendment of Clause 10 was in line with the anti-hopping provision under Article 49A of the Federal Constitution to prevent its MPs from switching parties.
“We want to amend the party’s constitution so that the memberships of members who shifted support are terminated immediately, and in line with Article 49A of the Federal Constitution, their seats would be vacated.
“We will then have a by-election and return the mandate to the people in the six constituencies. The betrayers will lose; we will give them zero,” he said.
Earlier, a total of six Bersatu lawmakers pledged support to the current prime minister’s administration while remaining in the opposition party.
The group consists of Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Zahari Kechik (Jeli) and Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tg Karang). – March 4, 2024
