KUALA LUMPUR – A 37-year-old Malaysian man has been arrested for allegedly pushing his girlfriend off the 23rd floor of a condominium in Setia Alam, Shah Alam.
The woman, who is a 32-year-old unemployed Thai national, fell to her death and landed on the seventh floor, near the swimming pool.
A local man, who called the police at about 10pm last night, said he heard the couple fight before witnessing the man shove the woman off the balcony.
The video of the incident was widely shared on social media.
Shah Alam police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said in a statement that the suspect will be brought to court at 9am for a remand application.
“The man was arrested at 10.10pm. Initial investigation found that the suspect is a lorry driver with seven prior criminal records and one related to drug use.
“He tested positive for cannabis in the urine test.”
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Upon conviction, the suspect could be sentenced to death or imprisonment between 30 and 40 years, as well as 12 strokes of the cane.
