I was at mosque to pray, Anwar happened to be there: Shahidan bats off loyalty questions

Arau MP reiterates he’s still with PAS, Perikatan

KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional’s Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim has chided questions posed over his political loyalty after being spotted at the National Mosque during Friday prayers with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today.

“This question sounds like a trap. If I switch to the other side, all is not right. Don’t even try to ask me about it. I’m not the kind of person.”

Shahidan said this when asked about his appearance at the mosque today, where Anwar was also seen, and whether he would follow in the footsteps of six Bersatu MPs.

“It so happened Anwar was there at the mosque and he walked past me. It’s Friday and I’m there to pray. I also met a lot of people. Friends of mine also told me that Anwar was there.”

He reiterated that he was with PAS as well as a PN member.

Umno sacked Shahidan just before the general election in November 2022 for defending his Arau seat under the PN banner.

The six Bersatu MPs who switched support are Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tg Karang), Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang) and Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar). – February 23, 2024
