PETALING JAYA – The Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) has not been scrapped but delayed to allow for a realignment review especially for the affected areas here.
Selangor’s Infrastructure and Agriculture exco Izham Hashim told Scoop that the state government has yet to make any further decisions regarding PJD Link.
The developer has also been informed to review the alignment plans involving Petaling Jaya, he added.
“The state government’s stand is simple – there is a need to relook the highway alignment especially in PJ. We have informed the developer to propose some ideas.”
Izham said the state government will make a decision after an internal meeting is held between the respective state and parliamentary representatives to discuss the social impact assessment (SIA).
“Prior to this, we did not have information pertaining to the SIA. There are also some protests over the project. We will discuss them in his meeting.”
It is understood that PLAN Malaysia Selangor has approved PJD Link’s SIA, allowing the project to commence.
In addition, Izham said the state government has requested that what has been tabled at the Selangor Economic Action Council be postponed until the internal meeting is held.
The highway is to connect Bandar Kinrara to Damansara and is aimed at reducing congestion in Petaling Jaya.
Last month, Selayang MP William Leong offered to facilitate the highway developer and the residents of the affected areas to establish a middle ground that would address the concerns of affected residents and allow the project to move forward.
Referring to recent reports that the PJD Link project – initially cancelled by the Selangor government on July 31 last year – was back under consideration, Leong urged the developers to reassess the highway’s alignment and explore feasible alternative options, emphasising collaboration.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said on August 1 last year that the project cancellation was not final, and that the ultimate decision rested with the federal government.
The PJD Link proposal was approved in principle by the cabinet in November 2017. In September 2020, the state government approved the project in principle, pending impact assessment reports. – February 22, 2024
