KUALA LUMPUR – A residents’ association in Kg Sri Makmur, Gombak, has lodged a police report ahead of a looming eviction scheduled to take place tomorrow following a notice approved by the Shah Alam High Court.
The police report was lodged by Sri Makmur Residents’ Association Action Committee chairperson Noora Mustafa on February 7, the same day residents in the Taman Sri Gombak area were served an eviction notice ordering them to vacate their homes by 9am on February 21.
The eviction of about 22 families who have been staying on land owned by Selangor State Development Corp (PKNS) is to make way for the development of a condominium.
“The association has been promised replacement settlement at the Sri Temenggung Rumah Selangorku and discussions (on the compensation) are still ongoing,” Noora said in the police report, which was filed at the Gombak district police headquarters.
“We have been assured by the political secretary of the Selangor menteri besar (Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari) that homes (in Kg Sri Makmur) which are still being inhabited will not be demolished as long as discussions are not finalised.
“This (police) cover report is made so that discussions can be conducted and we are not chased out before securing the promised settlement.”
A copy of the police report was shared with Scoop by Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham, who also shared a February 9 letter addressed to Amirudin, who is also Gombak MP.
Hilman shared the letter in response to a statement earlier today by the Green Party urging Amirudin and PKNS to intervene in the eviction order and achieve a win-win solution with residents.
The letter, signed by Noora as chair of the resident association’s action committee, states residents’ grouses with the eviction order and that the report will be “used to defend” their homes from being demolished on February 21. The letter was marked as received by the Gombak parliamentary service centre on February 16.
According to Noora, Sri Temenggung Rumah Selangorku compensation homes were promised during a meeting between state government representatives and the association on November 16 last year.
“The meeting was witnessed by three association representatives and (Amirudin’s) political secretary Rahim Kasdi, who is handling discussions (on the compensation),” Noora said in the letter.
“On January 31, (Rahim) had also attended a meeting with the Gombak Lands and Mines Office to discuss and list down the names of original Kg Sri Makmur inhabitants (to qualify for the compensation).
“If the selection (of residents who qualify for compensation) has been settled, then there are other matters which should be emphasised, including the process of securing a loan (for home rentals) and documentation will also take some time.”
She added that the 14-day notice is “impossible to adhere to and unfair” to residents, all of whom are Malay Muslim.
Speaking to Scoop, Hilman said claims by Green Party pro-tem secretary-general Abdul Razak Ismail that Amirudin had failed to address residents’ concerns were unfounded, as Noora proves that the menteri besar had engaged with residents. – February 20, 2024
