KUALA LUMPUR – Nothing seems to be stopping DAP’s Tony Pua as the former Damansara MP continues to take jabs over ex-prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s sentence reduction, even after receiving police reports against him.

In response to bemused reactions by Umno members, Pua shared a facetious congratulatory message to Najib on Facebook, expressing his “excitement” over the “well-deserved” sentence and fine reductions.

“I’m also pleased to hear that for an additional year’s detention at His Majesty’s pleasure, you will further save a handsome RM50 million,” he said, accompanied by a slew of emojis.

“I am certain that you will use all these hard-earned savings to help all the orphans and the impoverished, as you have done in the past.

“What’s more, I understand that if you demonstrate ‘good behaviour’, you will enjoy greater discounts in your sentence! Gosh, we can look forward to you campaigning for Umno in the 2027 General Elections!”

Pua also implied that Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, would join him for several years in prison “to keep (him) company”.

Speaking about Najib’s ongoing 1MDB cases, Pua expressed confidence in a positive outcome, as Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had “succeeded” in obtaining a dismissal not amounting to an acquittal for his own graft charges.

Since Najib’s sentence reduction was announced, Pua has been commenting on the matter on his social media accounts, such as posting a “get out of jail free” card, and a fake “apa malu bossku” discount code.

Pua’s comments were negatively received by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, who labelled them as “cheap publicity”, as well as Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, who said the wing would be lodging police reports nationwide.

Dr Akmal also shared a screenshot of Pua’s remarks, which were posted on the latter’s Facebook page. One of the posts was captioned: “King Klep pardoned! Looking forward to a public holiday too!”

Pua is now being investigated for sedition over his criticism of the Pardons Board’s decision on Najib.

Aside from Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, the former Damansara MP is also being investigated for the misuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed this today, as Pua is expected to present himself at Bukit Aman at 1pm tomorrow to assist in police investigations. – February 4, 2024
